Before you call
Four observations worth making before the visit.
- Check the freezer setpoint; Sub-Zero recommends 0°F.
- Note where the frost sits — a slab on the rear panel, a sheet on the floor or a ring at the gasket are three different faults.
- Make sure nothing is stopping the door closing, such as a basket or a bag caught on the hinge side.
- Listen with the door shut: a rattle that stops the moment it opens usually means a fan blade touching ice.

What the visit tests
- Compartment temperature logged against the setpoint.
- Frost pattern read, then the defrost heater, sensor and drain tested in turn.
- Evaporator and condenser fans checked for speed and contact.
